Broadway South incentives envisioned as ‘tipping point’ for downtown revival

Roger Wilson has it all planned out.
On the same day Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco signs Wilson’s Broadway South initiative into law, he will run a full-page ad in Daily Variety.
“It will read,” he says, moving a hand across the invisible headline stretched out before him, “‘The greatest alignment of incentives for your performance art production has just been ushered in by the state of Louisiana.’”
Wilson, a consultant for the city and entertainment industry veteran of 30 years, sees Broadway South as a clarion call, heralding the arrival of Louisiana as a major player in the world of performing arts. And it is close to becoming a reality.
Two weeks ago the Louisiana Senate passed the bill, 31 to 5, and last Tuesday the House Ways and Means Committee approved the measure moving it to the House floor.
