A special Katrina tax-incentive zone, fast-track contracting for public construction and money for the Federal City project in Algiers are among the initiatives New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is proposing for the legislative session that began Monday.
Nagin said he wants the state to use its budget surplus to improve infrastructure, to repair the city's criminal justice system, to enhance economic development and to provide relief from soaring insurance rates.

Of interest to those wanting to see the Broadway South initiative succeed is the following:
on page 2 it reads:
-- Pass tax incentives for musical or theatrical productions and facilities that are home to the performances. Known as the "Broadway South" plan, the initiative is in Senate Bill 218 by Murray. In addition to creating the new theatrical initiative, the city also wants the state to extend from 2008 to 2010 existing tax credits for film, sound recording and digital media production.
