Tuesday April 3 - At a Glance: A Day in the Life of Broadway South
8:00 AM
• Breakfast with Bill Monteleone, owner of Monteleone Hotel. We discuss hosting a Louisiana metro-area legislative delegation luncheon to raise awareness and support for Broadway South.
10:15 AM
• Drive to Baton Rouge to meet legislative consultant Markey Pierre of Southern Strategy Group. We agree that Markey will become one of the consultancy teams to guide Broadway South through the legislative process.
11:30 AM
• Go to the office of Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu’s Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Tourism Angele Davis to fill her in on where we are in the legislative process and to gain further support from the Lt Governor’s office for the initiative.
12:00 Noon
• At the Capital Building, Senator Ed Murray and I meet with the Commissioner Jerry Luc LeBlanc. This is a pivotal meeting as the Commissioner of Administration is the closest legislative officer to the Governor. We explain the concept of Broadway South to him and despite initial skepticism he warms to the idea and says he will recommend to the Governor for her to meet with us to hear about Broadway South in more detail. This will be a very important meeting for Broadway South to move forward.
7:30 PM
• Back in New Orleans I have dinner with State Representative Steve Schalise, who is one of the original authors of the Film Tax Incentives, to discuss his becoming a co-author of the Broadway South legislation. As an author of the film credits, Representative Schalise recognizes the natural importance of this bill and having his as a Republican House member giving us further bipartisan support is a great victory for Broadway South.
