Credits urged for performing arts, teachers
Broadway-bound productions, schoolteachers, graduate students and do-gooders would get tax breaks if legislation proposed for the upcoming session becomes law.
Lawmakers also are being asked to consider phasing out state income tax and to restore “Stelly plan” tax changes when they convene at the State Capitol on April 30.
Gov. Kathleen Blanco is pushing a package of modest tax breaks in her $29.2 billion proposed state government spending plan.
The hurricane recovery is fueling a revenue boom for the state. Billions of dollars are available to spend.
